Stay Safe

Taunton Women's Aid are proud to thank the numerous local businesses who have support our Stay Safe Campaign.  Spread the Stay Safe messages - help women and parents identify the early warning signs of unhealthy relationships.

Use the links on the right to gain a greater understanding of domestic abuse and learn how to stay safe if you or a friend is in an unhealthy relationship.

Stay Safe Campaign

Spread the Stay Safe message - help your family and friends to stay safe

HEAD - Think things through; keep your wits about you
EYES - Take the blinkers off; what is really happening around you
EARS - Listen to your friends; they will try to protect you
HEART - Trust your instincts; if you don't feel safe, you're not
HANDS - Your children are precious; don't let their safety slip through your fingers
LEGS - Don't rush; take new relationships slowly
FEET - Know where to go for help; just take the first step

If you are feeling uncomfortable or unsafe within a relationship:
  • Talk to your friends and family about what is going on and ask them for advice on what to do
  • Do some research on healthy and unhealthy relationships. Try typing this into Google for loads of information
  • Get advice from professionals about what your options are
  • If you think you need to leave the relationship, try and make a plan to do this safely. Ask friends and family or a professional you trust to help you

To help keep your children safe:
  • You wouldn’t hand over a valuable possession to someone you didn’t know very well so before you children spend time in another household try and find out who will be in the property at that time and get to know them a bit
  • Teach your children about what behaviour is appropriate from adults - ask your child’s teacher/nursery worker to help you work out how to say this appropriately
  • Teach your children what to do if they do feel uncomfortable with an adult e.g. how to dial your phone number, and encourage them to talk to you if someone is making them feel uncomfortable
  • Ensure they know never to go anywhere with a stranger. A stranger is someone whose house you, as a family, don’t spend time at
  • If you, or your child, have an uneasy feeling about someone, trust your instincts and don’t put your child at risk
